Learn to Knit a Sweater Workshop Knit Along
Learn to Knit a Sweater workshop.
In this 5 week workshop you will learn everything you need to knit a sweater.
Gauge and choosing the correct size including any ease that may be needed, setting up for raglans, German Short rows, separating for sleeves . The sweater is knit top down and in the round with no seaming needed and with short sleeves this will be a fun fast knit.
This is not a learn to knit class but is suitable for an adventurous beginner who wants to learn lots of new techniques.
You should be able to cast on, knit in the round, be able to increase and decrease, work independently, read a pattern and follow instruction.
We will be knitting the Tolsta Tee by Rebbeca Clow. This versatile and size inclusive pattern has lots of ideas for modifications, you could choose to add stripes, or an eyelet row, perhaps color blocking or some simple embroidery added after you finished the list is endless.
We have chosen to use Berroco Modern Cotton a beautiful light worsted weight yarn in a range of pretty summer colors. 60% Pima cotton and 40% Rayon make this yarn perfect for summer garments.
There is small amount of preparation you will need to before the class please fully read all the details below.
You will need to have knit in advance your gauge swatch in order for us to choose the correct needle size and garment size for you.
Please use a circular needle for your swatch and follow the information in the You Tube video link for swatching in the round. It is vital that you swatch in the round to achieve the correct information we need to ensure your garment will fit.
Swatch information ( using the video from above)
Cast on 25 stitches and knit for 25 rows. Start with recommended needle size of #8/5mm. once you have knit 25 rows, purl a row and change needle size to a #7/4.5mm knit 25 rows and purl a row change to needle size #9/5.5mm Bind off. We will then be able to see which needle size gives you the correct gauge and choose the right size for you.
